Karen Asher | Arms
2016 | c-print | 20 x 20 in
Karen Asher is one of Winnipeg’s most notable photographers. She is known for her ability to capture the performative drive in all of us. Her work is deeply raw and perfectly composed. The overlapping limbs in this c-print Arms create a convoluted sculptural mass out of individual bodies.
Karen Asher is a lens-based artist from Winnipeg whose work searches for the surreal image within the ordinary moment. Drawing upon the history and complexities of portraiture, Asher provides audiences with a glimpse into the strangeness and intricacy of the human condition. Asher received her BFA from the University of Manitoba’s School of Art in 2009, and is the recipient of numerous awards, grants, and honors. Her work has been exhibited extensively both locally and nationally, with solo presentations including No Cause For Concern at Platform Centre for Photographic and Digital Arts, Winnipeg and most recently The Full Catastrophe at Ace Art Inc., Winnipeg. Asher’s work has been featured in many publications, including The National Post, Blackflash, Canadian Art, and Border Crossings Magazine.
