Dropped Ceiling
2018 | Paper collage of ply | 14” x 11” | courtesy of the artist
Reserve: $550
A 16mm film still of an inadvertently luminous bureaucratic interior is reconstructed in this cut paper collage that pulls forward image elements of colour, light, and spatial relationships, while abstracting the image’s original content and context.
Irene Bindi‘s work combines variations of installation, collage, and sound. Informed by formal and structural elements of experimental cinema, her projects often manifest as film without film, exploring film outside the frame, in the spatial triangulation of various iterations of viewer, projection, and projector. Bindi is known for her precision, thoughtfulness and refined technic. As a visual and sound artist, she has exhibited and performed in numerous contexts across Canada and United States. Her recent solo exhibition, notte sopra vipere sotto, at the Golden Thread Gallery in Belfast, was developed through a residency of Artarcadia in Le Caselle Italy. She holds an MA in Film Studies from York University, and is production editor for the progressive Winnipeg-based book publisher ARP Books. Her work will be presented in the group exhibition Behind Closed Doors at the Winnipeg Art Gallery in Winter 2018.
