Kelly Mark | Fuck Yeah (Self-portrait as a Curmudgeon)
2016 | archival inkjet print | 36 x 36 in
Kelly Mark is a prolific artist, whose work captures her obsessive nature. She is a maker of lists, a performer of repetition and ritual, and a believer in precision and craft. This curmudgeonly self-portrait captures all of these traits. It is a beautiful inkjet print and a humourous and genuine reminder of an overbearing and needy world that is always confronting us, begging for our attention. In this work she reflects a disposition that most of see glimpses of in ourselves.
Kelly Mark is a multidisciplinary artist based in Toronto whose work explores the differing shades of pathos and humour found in the repetitive mundane tasks, routines, and rituals of everyday life. Mark obtained her BFA with a minor in Art History at the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design in 1994. She has exhibited extensively in both solo and group exhibitions, including Curmudgeon, Diaz Contemporary, Toronto; 108 Leyton Ave, IKON Gallery, Birmingham; and Kelly Mark !@#$%^&*, Platform Gallery, Seattle. Mark is represented in several public collections across Canada and in the UK, including The National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; The Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; and the Musee D’Art Contemporarin, Montreal.
